No Kid Left Hungry!

Problem ---- 219,000 Virginia kids are at risk of going hungry daily and especially over the summer vacation period!
So let’s have a Rally Cry around Virginia (and the world too!) – NO KID LEFT HUNGRY!!
Here in VA most kids are naturally anxious for summer vacations with dreams of the beach – going to a recreational park or taking a trip – BUT many others are wondering about where their next full meal will come from.
Well – hopefully they will not need to worry any longer! On 7 June 2011, the State Governor Bob McDonnell announced along with Hollywood star Jeff Bridges and US Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack a new program to make sure kids can afford to eat nutritious meals over their summer vacations. This new program will help a lot of kids get good meals at seriously reduced or no cost at all over the summer. Before this program was started an estimated 80% of VA kids who depended on reduced price lunches during the school year in order to afford to eat might lose that benefit and potentially go hungry over the summer. Not anymore!! The No Kid Hungry program, now operating in more than a dozen states, is sponsored by an organization called Share Our Strength that aims to create public-private partnerships with the goal of eradicating childhood hunger by 2015.
Now if parents/guardians or the kids themselves are in need they can call 211 in VA to get information on where they can go to receive a great meal!! Let’s get the word out quickly before school’s out!!
